About Leslie's Care Packages
Vi Wood is the face and founder of ‘Leslie's Care Packages’, which has been set up in loving memory of her husband Leslie. Vi wanted to do good work in his name to keep his memory alive.
Initially set up to help the homeless, the non-profit voluntary organisation now helps all groups of vulnerable people right across the Black Country and Beyond. After seeing so many people in need in the community, Vi initially put out appeals for help on Facebook, back in August 2016. Since then, LCPs has attracted a big response from generous people across the West Midlands.
LCP has been serving the local community since 2016 and have seen LCP grow massively in terms of the demand on services, the awareness of the work they do and the generous donations from the local public. LCP is now seen as an established point of contact for local communities, both in terms of professional / organisational referrals and individual help requests.
Impact of the Pandemic
The pandemic has seen a dramatic increase in donations but sadly and inevitably also in help requests. The pandemic has drawn attention to the fact that these issues and needs have always been there and will continue to be so in the future.
Over the years, LCP has provided a wide range of items such as food parcels, toiletries, white goods (subject to PAT test), internet / mobile data, gas / electric, clothing, furniture, cleaning equipment, baby & infant food / goods, pet food, items for pregnant / new mothers in need etc.
LCP is supported by a core team of trusted volunteers who share the passion and ethos behind LCP and are committed to serving people in the community. Whilst Vi deals solely with requests (and the verification process) volunteers help with a range of duties such as deliveries, sorting / store cupboard, administration, collecting donations etc. Volunteers are local people from local businesses such as a travel agent, housing officer for BCC, law firm director, schooling administration, childcare as well as retired army/air Force and a student.
